We Are Free

We Are Free

Near our home in Michigan is a park my kids love to frequent. As you drive down the lane to the park, you are impressed with how well manicured it is. It is clean and well cared for and has a little something for everyone.

When you go to this park, you will find people of all ages. Some of them are swinging, jumping, and romping their way across the 10,000-square-feet, multilevel play set. Others are out playing on the one-acre grass and gravel map of the continental United States. Some are hiking one of the many trails that come to a head at this park, and a fair amount of folks just pass through on the bike trail that cuts through the park.

I think the reason our kids like to go there so often is that when we are there they have freedom. There are lots of things to do and lots of places to explore. And as long as Amy or I can see them, they have complete freedom to go where they want to go and do what they want to do.

As we enter this new year, let’s remember that we are free in Christ. There is nowhere we can go that God does not see us. He delights in us, and we are free to delight in Him. He is calling us to live according to our true identity in Christ. He loves us very much.

Readings:

Isaiah 63:7-9, Psalm 148, Hebrews 2:10-18, Matthew 2:13-23

Numbers 6:24-26 – “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.” Amen. (NIV)
