Over the next few days, Pastoral Coach and Associate Bible Teacher Knute Larson will be leading our conversation around the topic of relationships and church leadership. Knute will bring his decades of pastoral experience to bear as he leads our conversation and gives us helpful insights regarding board selection, relationships, and ministry focus.
All of us want to be more gracious and productive leaders, but sometimes one of the greatest challenges a pastor can face is relating to and ministering with a church’s lay leadership team. No matter what your congregation calls this group (elders, deacons, consistory, church council, etc.), in most cases all of us who’ve been in pastoral ministry know what it’s like to have a less than harmonious relationship with the lay leaders of the congregation we serve.
This kind of disunity makes our work a burden. Worse yet, as power struggles and unmet expectations wreck havoc on a congregation, it has also caused many pastors to doubt their calling and fit for local church ministry.
With these thoughts in mind, please join Knute as he leads us into places of fresh discovery and insight regarding the relationships of a pastor with his/her lay leaders. It just may be the encouragement you need to keep at the task of shepherding Christ’s church well.
