We conclude our consideration of the King of kings today by looking a final time at Psalm 24 to see that Christ is…
Sovereign in Glory (vv.7-10)
Now we see His great glory displayed. It is a glory we are compelled to respond to both as people of creation, and people of justified and transformed hearts.
It is the powerful account of the Lord’s victorious entry into the city won in battle. It brings to us a stirring and towering image of the unseen King of Glory! See His glory and majesty!
Entrance of the King (vv.7,9)
Lift up your heads, O gates
Be lifted up, O ancient doors
The King of glory will come in
This speaks not only of the Shekinah glory, but of the inherent glory that is His as He enters the Golden Gate and assumes His rightful place on the thrones of His father, David.
Celebrating the King (vv.8,10) twice the antiphonal question is asked, “Who is the King of glory?” The responses of the crowd?
What an amazing picture, as the celebration goes forth for the king who has won the victory, and now takes His rightful place of rule!
The key for us is this, when did that victory occur? Here it is…
“And when you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us and which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.” (Colossians 2:13-15).
May we rejoice in our great and glorious King!
