“Psalm 91: The Song Of Great Safety” (part 3)

“Psalm 91: The Song Of Great Safety” (part 3)

In this troubled world, people are longing for safety and security—precisely what is described in Psalm 91. On Monday, we saw that the first element of that safety is seen in deep, spiritual confidence. Wednesday we saw this can be a shared confidence, Today, we see that this confidence is not only personal or shared, it is a …

Declared Confidence (vv.14-16)

Up to this point the psalmist has been speaking. He has first spoken out his own experience, then to our experience. Now, it is God Himself who speaks—and what words He has to say! God addresses the one who has “set His love upon Me!” The fact is that the person who is constantly abiding with the Lord is the one that will most readily sense the Lord’s care in times of distress. Why? “Because he has known My Name!” (v.14)

In each of these closing verses there are two divine promises- one present and one future…

v.14- Present- “I will deliver him”

Future- “I will set him on high”

v.15- Present- “I will be with him in trouble”

Future- “I will deliver and honor him”

         v.16- Present- “Long life, satisfaction”

Future- “Let him see My salvation.”

We see our safety in full view, because we see Him in His faithfulness, care, and provision.

So, in the midst of all the things we don’t know, here is what we know—there is safety in Him, whether the world always seems safe or not. All the kinds of danger mentioned in this song are ineffective against the one who dwells in the shadow of the Almighty, for God is greater!
